Stage 5 of the 2026 Tour de Romandie was won by Tadej Pogacar, who won his fourth stage and the overall classification. The World Champion fully dominated the race, winning the final stage after responding to the attacks of Florian Lipowitz on the climb to Leysin.
The final stage of the race began in Lucens and throughout its grand majority, it was a day in the rolling hills of Romandie. Hence, favourable for the formation of a strong breakaway. Jakob Söderqvist, Gil Gelders, Asbjorn Hellemose, Lorenzo Germani, Finn Fisher-Black, Jan Tratnik, Marrco Schrettl and Robbe Dhondt were in the head of the race; but with Bahrain - Victorious and UAE Team Emirates - XRG putting on an effective chase.
Before the final climb there were no major difficulties and the groups remained tightly together. The riders passed Aigle where the UCI headquarters were based, in the start of the final climb to Leysin, and then the action began. The 14.3-kilometer long climb averaged 5.3% and as soon as it began, Fisher-Black attacked in front and went solo off the front.
Behind, Bahrain continued setting the pace, trying to set up a potential stage win for Lenny Martínez, against a Tadej Pogacar who admitted he came into Romandie with more weight than usual and hadn't been able to make the difference as usual. However that would not change the outcome. With 4 kilometers to go Florian Lipowitz launched the first attacked, followed by Pogacar and a few others.
It became a tactical race briefly as Pogacar would not attack, but instead the other figures in the Top10 would make their moves. But Lipowitz second serious move saw only Pogacar follow and the rest of the field fall behind in their own personal GC battles - like the previous stage.
The slow-down in the final kilometer, as Pogacar waited for the sprint, sa Primoz Roglic return to the front. However it was Lipowitz who launched first, dropping his teammate; whilst Pogacar sprinted to his fourth stage win of the week - comfortably, sealing the overall win in the process.
