Egan Bernal's career has been one consistently plagued by bad luck and nasty crashes over recent years. After the former Tour de France winner had shown some of his best form in a long while in early 2025, taking a pair of Colombian national titles, disaster struck again last month at the Clásica Jaén Paraiso Interior.
With hopes high of the INEOS Grenadiers star continuing his strong early season form, a nasty slide out on the gravel resulted in a broken collarbone, forcing the 28-year-old to suffer another setback. If one thing has been learned about Bernal over the recent years of difficulty though, it's that the Colombian is incredibly resilient and he is already proving that yet again.
Having posted himself climbing the Col d'Eze just a week on from suffering his collarbone injury, Bernal is reportedly already being lined up for a return to competitive racing at the upcoming Volta a Catalunya (March 24-30). "Sources told us that Egan Bernal INEOS Grenadiers is recovering well after his crash and broken collarbone at Clasica Jean," reports Ciro Scognamiglio of La Gazzetta dello Sport. "Next race for him? Not decided 100% yet, but at this stage the most likely option is Volta Catalunya."
