Remco Evenepoel will be a
Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe rider in a few months and within the German team there are already serious preparations in order. Besides the changes in staff, several riders within the team are motivated and happy that they will be joined by the double Olympic Champion and believe the team will be improving because of him.
"I’ve ridden with guys of that calibre in the past like Tadej, and Remco is another of these aliens. I’m excited to have him on the team,"
Finn Fisher-Black told
Cyclingnews at the
Tour de Pologne. "Someone like this brings the spirit of the team up. But that’s next year and we’ll look to the rest of this year now".
BORA have pulled out the big guns to have this signing, with rumours of a very large salary of millions for the Belgian but also a 'considerable sum' payed to Soudal - Quick-Step in order to break free of his previously existent contract that lasted all the way into 2026. Although Fisher-Black is unlikely to be directly racing with Evenepoel often, it's the arrival of such a big star that can change the philosophy within the team.
"I think the thing is, when you have a winning environment, it changes the whole feeling in the team. It kind of brings everyone up. So having one of these really incredible riders in the team, naturally it brings the whole team forward. It makes the whole team a bit more professional".
"It's a very clear example, they have almost every rider winning races. So I’m excited to see what [Evenepoel's arrival] can do for the whole team. Remco is one rider, but he can bring this feeling to the team that can make it get some more success in other places."
In reality BORA is already well above most teams in the World Tour, with Florian Lipowitz having a breakthrough over the past year and a half and carrying massive potential whilst serving the team's nationality; a veteran and Grand Tour winner in Primoz Roglic; an incredibly promising young climber in Giulio Pellizzari and other climbers who at their best level fight for Grand Tour victories such as Jai Hindley and Daniel Martínez.
The latter hasn't had a good season but believes that despite the team's immense quality and depth, the Belgian's addition will still make for a meaningful improvement. "For sure, with Remco in the team, we'll have a very strong squad all round. He's a massively important rider and he'll definitely bring a lot to the team. The key thing is: he's coming."
