Remco Evenepoel has been the subject of intense transfer
speculation for years, with links to major teams like INEOS, Visma, and most
recently, Primoz Roglic’s
Red Bull-Bora-hansgrohe. The 2022 Vuelta champion and
three-time world champion, Evenepoel has continued to attract interest with his
outstanding achievements, including the white jersey at this year’s Tour de
France. Despite his appeal, it appears he’ll be staying with Soudal-Quick Step
for the foreseeable future.
According to reports from
HLN, recent transfer
rumours have been definitively quashed. “A conversation in which matters were
discussed, but above all named and clarified, also between Lefevere and his
right-hand man, COO Jurgen Foré. And in which the ranks were finally closed and
all parties have grown much closer to each other.” It seems that team manager
Patrick Lefevere is intent on keeping Evenepoel until his contract expires at
the end of 2026.
While Soudal-Quick Step may not have the extensive budgets
of UAE Team Emirates, Visma, or INEOS, the team is committed to giving
Evenepoel the support he needs. The article notes, “The team undertakes, albeit
within budgetary limits, to bend over backwards to support Evenepoel as best as
possible in pursuing his objectives.”
With the
2025 Tour de France route recently announced,
Evenepoel already has his sights set on a strong performance. The original plan
was for him to peak at the 2025 Tour, but he showed promise in his debut
earlier this year, finishing third and taking a stage win. In the coming years,
he is widely seen as the most likely challenger to Tadej Pogacar and Jonas
Vingegaard, who have dominated the Tour de France, winning the past five
editions between them.
A three-way battle for the yellow jersey is an exciting
prospect for fans, and with his future now secure,
Evenepoel’s focus remains
firmly on the road ahead with Soudal-Quick Step.
