Nairo Quintana will not be racing the
Vuelta a Espana. The Arkéa Samsic rider will be appealing to the UCI's decision to sanction him, removing his results from the Tour de France he just completed successfully.
"I communicate that I will not participate in the Vuelta to assert me reasons before the Court of Arbitration (CAS), I will return to the calendar races at the end of the season," Quintana said in a statement this morning which has in the meantime been shared by journalists on sight.
Quintana was yesterday informed that he had lost his results at the Tour de France 2022, alongside the important UCI points that came along with it, due to two separate positive results for the painkiller tramadol. The Colombian issued a statement last night confirming that he would be racing the Vuelta a Espana - as he has not been suspended from racing - however in the eve of the start the decision has been overturned.
Quintana will not be racing the Vuelta, and Arkéa Samsic have not yet adressed who will be replacing the team leader in the Spanish race.
