A cold-blooded winner, Primoz Roglic has won four out of four stage-races this year, he has sealed the overall victory at the Vuelta a Burgos as he won the queen stage to Lagunas de Neila.
The queen stage was to seal the overall classification but a stage win was also up for grabs. To beat the pure climbers directly would be impossible so early on many riders tried to get in the breakaway. Only four did: Joe Dombrowski (Astana Qazaqstan Team), Jetse Bol (Burgos-BH), Carlos Canal (Euskaltel-Euskadi) and briefly Jefferson Cepeda (EF Education-EasyPost).
The group was caught right in time for the final climb, the fight for positioning saw a high pace in the peloton to prepare the ascent. UAE and Jumbo-Visma were towards the front, UAE began to force the pace as soon as the ascent to Lagunas de Neila began.
Domen Novak set a strong early pace but it was with Jay Vine picking up the pace that the race truly split. Only three riders followed in the wheel on the steep gradients, when Vine ended his effort only Primoz Roglic, Adam Yates and Aleksandr Vlasov were left in the head of the race, seemingly very balanced.
The trio all passed in the front, with Yates pushing the pace in the final kilometers looking to crack his rivals. He was unsuccessful but held on for second place, as Primoz Roglic - in traditional style - sprinted to victory on the day, seemingly comfortable. Vlasov rode to third, the trio complete the podium respectively.
