Something is cooking in the
Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe camp which is not yet fully clear.
Primoz Roglic has shared a post on Instagram training in the mountains, in preparation for something. It is impossible not to think the Slovenian is thinking of a return to the Vuelta a Espana after his Tour de France ended in disaster.
Roglic moved away from Team Visma | Lease a Bike in search of sole leadership and a strong collective, and found it in BORA which has been having a lot of investment since the entrance of Red Bull as a sponsor. With the likes of Aleksandr Vlasov and Jai Hindley, he certainly had a strong support crew for the Tour's mountains but the race didn't go to plan in any way.
In fact BORA were the team that earned the least money throughout the entire race. This was a result of Vlasov's withdrawal after a brutal crash on stage 9, Roglic who then also abandoned the race due to a crash days after and a Hindley that couldn't find his form. Lennard Kämna was originally also set to race but hasn't yet recovered from a training crash suffered in April; whilst Daniel Martínez was sidelined to focus on his own ambitions after a brilliant second place at the Tour de France.
Hence, the team is looking to gather itself back up and could do it at the Vuelta, where the likes of Tadej Pogacar, Jonas Vingegaard and Remco Evenepoel are certain to skip. BORA will likely have Vlasov at the start line, as will Daniel Martínez and talented climbers Florian Lipowitz and Giovanni Aleotti who have each taken important wins this season. By all means it is a very strong block for the mountains as well but it could become even stronger.
Roglic's post hints at a return, although this has not been confirmed by either himself or the team. It is possible that he will race the Clásica San Sebastián as the team placed him in the provisional startlist, however this is also not assured.
