Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe have announced their lineup for the Vuelta a España. The German team will aim as high as possible, taking Primoz Roglic as their leader but also a very strong team of climbers and rouleurs to protect the Slovenian.
“We are also going into the third Grand Tour of the year with great ambitions. We have nominated eight riders with whom we won't be hiding but want to compete aggressively for the GC," Rolf Aldag said in a press release. "However, we will have to wait and see to what extent we can do this. After all, the crash injuries and five-week break from racing for both Primož and Aleks were not the ideal preparation for a Grand Tour.”
The team admits it may have limitations as both Roglic and Vlasov have suffered injuries that took them out of the Tour de France. The team's main goal failed, but there is a second chance to succeed in Spain. Roglic is a three-time winner of this race and this includes an edition where he came in right after abandoning the Grand Boucle. He will be a victory contender, likely a co-leader together with the Russian climber and Daniel Martínez.
The Colombian was second at the Giro d'Italia, a massive result that also suggests he may fight for the overall win at the Vuelta, since he only finished second to Tadej Pogacar in Italy. Florian Lipowitz, breakthrough climber, and Tour of Slovenia winner Giovanni Aleotti will be key in the mountains as well.
Three spots remain, with Roger Adrià being an extra support rider for the mountains and option for breakaway victories on hilly days. Two riders will be taking care of their leaders in the flat days and these spots were given out to Nico Denz and Patrick Gamper.
