Tadej Pogacar and Primoz Roglic are friends off the bike, but when it comes to competition they frequently rivals themselves - and consequently rip the possibility of a win. They are set to face-to-face at the Tour de France, and Pogacar has talked about their relation.
"In every race we have together with Primož, we are competitors for victory. In the end we often stay alone. We drive each other to the finish line, everyone wants to win for their team. It will be the same on the Tour, I am already looking forward to this race," Pogacar told in an interview with RTV SLO.
Although this year they have stayed clear of each other's paths, the Slovenian duo has frequently collided in the past over similar goals. This summer will be no exception, as for the third time in a row they start the Tour de France as the two main favourites, leading incredibly strong lineups for Jumbo-Visma and UAE Team Emirates - if all goes to plan.
When asked about who will be contesting the Tour with him later this summer, Pogacar had a satisfying response loaded: "Others - but it is also in my mind that Primož is the most dangerous for me, which makes me happy, because we speak the same language. It is much better to race against him than against anyone else."
Sure enough that is likely to happen. Roglic has nevertheless been struggling recently, as he looks to nurture a knee injury that arised during Itzulia Basque Country. With Jonas Vingegaard, Rohan Dennis, Sepp Kuss, Steven Kruijswijk and Wout van Aert set to line up in Copenhagen, Pogacar won't have an easy time even if his compatriot fails to start the race.
