The first online stage, also starting and finishing in Yopal, will cover 197.3 kilometers. This stage will start with steep terrain and will feature two fourth-category mountain passes that will determine the first leader of the Mountain classification. The final part will be mostly flat, which could provide opportunities for the sprinters.
This and the second stage will be the only ones in which the sprinters have a chance to win in a
Vuelta a Colombia that will be very hilly. Miguel Angel Lopez is the current overall leader, 17 seconds ahead of his Team Medellin - EPM teammate Fabio Duarte, 2nd, and Rodrigo Contreras of Colombia Pacto Por El Deporte, 3rd at 18 seconds.
