We
preview stage 6 of the
Tour of Britain, taking place on the 7th of September, the final day of the race in which Geraint Thomas will say goodbye to cycling.
Romain Grégoire is in the lead of the race, but the final stage is not easy and features a very difficult climb close to the finish that will prove to be a big challenge for the GC riders. Will
Remco Evenepoel be able to take the overall win on the final day of the race? The stage is set to start at
12:45CET and finish at
16:00CET.
The race will finish off in Wales with a stage starting in Newport, just outside the Geraint Thomas velodrome where a tribute is expected to one of the country's most successful racers ever. The stage is definitely not flat and on Welsh roads the winner could still be different.
This is because the hilly day sees a very steep climb towards the end of the day. Before the flat finale in Cardiff, the riders will ascent Caerphily Mountain, 1.3 kilometers at 9.6% in which we could see race-defining attacks.
Romain Grégoire enters the final stage in the race lead but it is one of only 2 seconds over Remco Evenepoel, something that can be eliminated only in bonifications. The bonus seconds are quite possible going to decide the race, as
Julian Alaphilippe is also only 2 seconds away from the race lead and Oscar Onley - 8 seconds away - is also well within range. However, we have 12 riders in the space of 17 seconds from the overall win, and in a finale that can get quite tactical, any attack can lead to absolute success in the race. Both climbers and puncheurs have the chance of doing something special on this day, and in case of a sprint finish Matthew Brennan will be eager to win once again.
