Tom Pidcock has been riding a formidable season so far in 2025 after his move away from INEOS Grenadiers, and is one of the few riders who has managed to battle
Tadej Pogacar - at Strade Bianche. However at Liège-Bastogne-Liège, the Briton was already at the limit when the race-winning move happened at the Côte de la Redoute.
In conversation with CyclingPro.net, the Briton was honest about the events that took place in La Redoute: "Pogacar went so early. Normally, we kick at the bottom, then it settles a little bit, and then we go again".
The lack of a consistent rhythm in the first half of the climb would've likely burnt the
Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team rider, and so he opted to stay in the peloton, where later on in the climb Giulio Ciccone would attack and Pidcock would follow to form the chasing group.
It was a very hard finale. Whilst the gap to Pogacar was growing, it was not over the lack of effort from the chasing group, where Pidcock was close to the limit most of the time, and was then dropped at Roche-aux-Faucons. "I felt super good in the chasing group at first, but I didn't let myself recover enough."
There he was dropped by Ciccone and Ben Healy, who would take the final spots on the podium alongside the World Champion. "I'm disappointed about that, I had good legs, but I couldn't go again".
Nevertheless it wasn't the end of the day for the Briton, who would later on be caught by the large peloton, but his good form really kicked in as in the final sprint he still managed to take a 9th spot - whilst Julian Alaphilippe, who was also dropped, suffered from cramps and finished outside the Top50. Pidcock will now be recovering a bit before his Giro d'Italia participation.
