Pascal Ackermann finished second at yesterday's chaotic sprint finale at the
Tour de Pologne, announcing his return to the fights for the wins after what has been a complicated year.
"I’m happy with the result today. After the injury it is nice to be back to compete with the other sprinters," the German sprinter said after the finish. Although having won the Bredene Koksijde Classic, Ackermann has not taken any other win throughout the season, and has not managed to go near the level he had reached in past years. He hasn't won in the World Tour since the 2020 Vuelta a España, but came close to returning yesterday.
"The team helped me well, but I was unlucky and I lost some positions in the last roundabout, so I decided to go with a long sprint and Thijssen overtook me right at the end," he explained. "However, I am very happy and ready for the next stages".
Ackermann rode a strong finish, performing above the likes of Mark Cavendish, Arnaud Démare and Sam Bennet who have failed to be near a win so far in the Polish race. He should have one more opportunity in the final day, and will be a card to play as he looks to take an important win.
