Remco Evenepoel has looked back on a sensational 2024
season, a year in which the Soudal – Quick-Step rider firmly silenced his
doubters and etched his name in the history books. Evenepoel’s achievements
were nothing short of extraordinary, from an impressive debut at the Tour de
France to an
unparalleled double gold at the Paris
Olympic Games.
Evenepoel made his long-awaited debut at the
Tour de France
in July, finishing third overall, a remarkable feat for a first-timer in the
world's biggest cycling race. Along the way, he claimed a memorable stage win
and cemented his place on the podium, proving that he is not just a specialist
in time trials or one-day races, but also a formidable contender in Grand
Tours.
Just weeks later, Evenepoel shifted focus to the Paris
Olympic Games, where he made history. The Belgian became the first male cyclist
to win both the road race and time trial gold medals at the same Olympics, an
achievement that highlights his versatility and potential across different
disciplines of the sport.
Reflecting on his unforgettable year, Evenepoel took to
Instagram to express his gratitude and determination.
“2024... What a year! A very special one, one where
childhood dreams became reality, one to never forget,” he wrote.
“Thank you to my wife, my family, the whole team, and
especially my fans for the unconditional support throughout the year.”
Evenepoel’s Instagram post also looked ahead to 2025,
acknowledging the challenges he faces with an early-season injury but pledging
to return stronger than ever.
“2024 is ending, and 2025 will start with an injury, but I
am very determined to come back stronger next year.
“See you in 2025!” So what will 2025 hold for Remco? Does the yellow jersey beckon? Or will he need more time to close the gap to Pogacar and Vingegaard, only time will tell.
