Three-time European under-23 time trial champion
Alec Segaert will part ways with
Lotto - the team where he raced his whole career. After four seasons in the Belgian structure, Segaert penned a three-year contract with
Bahrain - Victorious. There he will link with his older brother Loïc who's one of the team's valued performance coaches.
While Alec Segaert's time trial ability is well-recognized, the 22-year-old has also been gradually discovering the world of cobbled classics with some very promising results such as top-10 at the Dwars door Vlaanderen. With podium at last year's under-23 World Championships, it's clear that we should expect a lot from the young Belgian in the future.
"Alec is a young rider with enormous potential, and we believe he will play a key role for us, both in the classics and in supporting our general classification ambitions," says team manager Milan Erzen. "He has the talent, mentality, and work ethic we value, and we look forward to helping him continue his development at the highest level."
Sergaet himself sees the team as "the ideal next step in my personal development as a WorldTour rider." "The team is professional and ambitious. I am too, and I hope this move will help me achieve new goals in my career. I'm convinced I'll fit in well with the classics team and be a valuable asset to the GC riders in the stage races."
