A transfer that had been rumoured for several months now has finally been made official. Coming over from
Movistar Team,
Gregor Mühlberger will be joining Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale as the team puts in more and more focus on it's mountain team.
"Gregor Mühlberger has spent several years with major teams and his recruitment for the 2026 season is a valuable reinforcement," team manager Sebastien Joly said in a
press release. "He's a solid climber, capable of accompanying our leaders in the most demanding mountain stages. His presence should enable us to strengthen our collective in the mountains and give even more support to our leaders, particularly Felix Gall, in the major events."
The 31-year old has nine pro wins in his palmarès, the most recent in 2023 where he was Austrian national champion and a stage winner at both Tour of the Alps and Deutschland Tour. A quality climber, he has often also ridden at the service of his leaders in the past, specially during his time at BORA - hansgrohe where he jumped onto ProTeam level in 2016.
This is only one of the many market moves the French team has done in these months, which includes the creation of a whole new leadout train for it's star signing Olav Kooij featuring also Cees Bol, Robbe Ghys and Daan Hoole. The team has also signed Tobias Lund Andresen as a secondary sprint leader, Tiesj Benoot as a new classics headliner and Matthew Ricitello as another card for the mountainous races after his Top5 at the Vuelta a España.
Muhlberger will have 2 leaders
We could on paper include Matthew Riccitello here as well, but Mühlberger's link with compatriot Felix Gall is without a doubt the main component of this transfer. However, the 18th place at this year's Tour de France may also end up having a role supporting 19-year old Paul Seixas who is the team's great hope for coming years, and has joined Tadej Pogacar and Remco Evenepoel on the podium of the elite World Championships this Sunday.
"I'm extremely happy to be joining one of the best teams in the world. I believe in what this team is building and in its high level of professionalism on a daily basis, which motivates me even more to surpass myself," Mühlberger added.
"I'm looking forward to proving that I'm a very good team member in the mountains, and to supporting our leaders in the overall rankings like Paul Seixas and my Austrian compatriot Felix Gall. I'm honored to have the chance to join DECATHLON CMA CGM for the 2026 season, and look forward to meeting all the talented people who make up the team."
