After a brilliant set of weeks INEOS Grenadiers have been having, with wins at Amstel Gold Race, Brabantse Pijl and Paris-Roubaix, they will be looking to keep their streak going in the final spring classic which takes place tomorrow, Liège-Bastogne-Liège.
Who the team leader will be is set to be discussed on the road only surely, as the team comes with several cards who can be played. The most reliable of those is Daniel Martínez, who just came off a fifth place at Flèche Wallone after winning Itzulia Basque Country, and should be a fan of the climbing-filled route that the riders will be facing tomorrow. Carlos Rodríguez and Geraint Thomas, as climbers, should also be more comfortable than in the more explosive Ardennes classics of the last few weeks.
However on the other side the team also brings in Tom Pidcock, on paper one of the big favourites however with a lot of inconsistency that is likely related to stomach issues - which have prolonged into this wednesday's race. Amstel Gold Race winner Michal Kwiatkowski is another one, and the Polish rider is on a great run of form and motivation in which he's looking to still take advantage of.
In a team press release, Kwiatkowski has reinstated the team's mentality heading into the race: "I just want to race and see how it is on the road, see how the boys are. We don’t care who the leader is on paper - that’s not racing. It’s all about getting everything out on the road. That’s what we will do at Liege.”
INEOS Grenadiers for Liège-Bastogne-Liège: Laurens de Plus, Omar Fraile, Michal Kwiatkowski, Daniel Martínez, Tom Pidcock, Carlos Rodríguez and Geraint Thomas.
