Movistar Team has finalized its line-up for La Vuelta a España 2026. The Spanish squad has confirmed the eight riders set to tackle the season’s final Grand Tour, a race where they aim to finish the year on a stronger note after a difficult Tour de France and a Giro d’Italia in which Enric Mas fell short of expectations.
The omission of Nairo Quintana has been notable, with the Colombian set to retire at the end of this season. The team will be led by Enric Mas, who is, in theory, the primary contender for the general classification. The Mallorcan reaches La Vuelta needing to salvage a season that has been complicated in the Grand Tours. His Giro d’Italia performance fell well below expectations, but he lines up in Spain after regaining rhythm at the Vuelta a Burgos, where he finished fifth overall.
La Vuelta once again offers Mas a chance to rediscover the competitive edge that has taken him to the podium here on several occasions. The logical target is to fight for the places of honor in the GC and, at the very least, position himself among the elite in what looks a demanding edition.
Alongside him will be Cian Uijtdebroeks, who will serve as the team’s second leader. The Belgian arrives with many question marks after a disappointing Tour de France, which he abandoned. He has not raced since, so La Vuelta will mark his return to competition.
Uijtdebroeks, however, has a special motivation for this race. It was at La Vuelta where he first announced himself to a wider audience as one of world cycling’s top young talents. Now, with more experience and after joining Movistar Team, he will try to regain his best level and fight for a top 10 in the general classification.

Plenty cards to chase stage wins for Movistar

The team’s third major card is Iván Romeo. The rider from Valladolid is expected to enjoy freedom to chase his own opportunities and will be one Movistar must protect when the race hits terrain suited to attacks. His progression throughout 2026 has made him one of the Spanish squad’s standout young references.
Alongside Romeo is Pablo Castrillo, another rider who can play a leading role in the mountain stages. The Spaniard has already shown he can win in high-demand scenarios, and his profile fits a Vuelta where breakaways could be hugely influential.
Raúl García Pierna will be another important piece. The Madrilenian arrives after showing solid form this year and will have freedom to hunt his chances, though he can also take on support duties for the leaders when required.
The roster is rounded out by Carlos Canal and Orluis Aular, two riders who add even more options. Canal can be an asset on medium-mountain days, in fast finales, or from breakaways; while Aular represents one of the team’s best bets when stages finish in reduced groups or sprints. The Venezuelan has already shown during his time at Movistar that he can contest the front positions on such days.

The only pure domestique in the line-up will be Jorge Arcas, likely tasked with one of the most important yet least visible roles. His experience and work rate will be essential to protect Mas and Uijtdebroeks over the three weeks, manage race situations, and assist teammates when energy starts to run low.
Movistar Team thus unveils a balanced selection, with two GC leaders and a broad range of riders capable of hunting stage wins. The main goal is for Mas and Uijtdebroeks to rediscover their best versions, while Romeo, Castrillo, García Pierna, Canal, and Aular will have licence to animate various stages for the telephone-backed outfit.
La Vuelta therefore stands as a final major chance for Movistar Team to close out 2026 with a performance that matches the expectations created by a reinforced roster this season. The Spanish team had already underlined the importance of the Grand Tours within their sporting goals, and now comes the time to prove it at home.
