Primoz Roglic has been confirmed to be racing the 2026 Vuelta a España. The Slovenian suffered a training crash in the lead up to the final Grand Tour of the season, but Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe has now confirmed that the Slovenian will be fit to compete for a record-breaking fifth overall win at the Spanish race.

Roglic joined by stage hunters and Grand Tour debutants

The Slovenian has followed his own path throughout the 2026 season, teaming up with the likes of Giulio Pellizzari and Florian Lipowitz early on in the season but chasing his own results often in the overall standings. In the summer he trained towards the Tour de Suisse and national championships, but hasn't left a good impression on the longer climbs, which puts into question his ability to challenge for the podium in the Spanish Grand Tour.
Roglic's participation at the Vuelta itself was put into jeopardy after he was hit by a vehicle during a training ride which forced him out of the Clásica San Sebastián and Vuelta a Burgos. He returned to the bike, but his form is rather unknown. Roglic is the winner of the 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2024 Vuelta editions and so has the experience on his side, whilst a fifth win this year would have him become the sole record holder in the race.
After not having been selected for neither Giro d'Italia or Tour de France - with the team achieving a podium on both - Rogic now gets full unchallenged leadership at the Vuelta, albeit with a lineup that does not have most of the team's top climbers.
Remco Evenepoel, Florian Lipowitz, Jai Hindley, Giulio Pellizzari, Aleksandr Vlasov and Daniel Martínez all sit out of the Spanish Grand Tour whilst Roglic should be supported by Luke Tuckwell, the surprise of the Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, second in the final overall classification after a successful breakaway.
The team is in fact using this Grand Tour to provide experience towards some of its young riders. Aside from Tuckwell, both Callum Thornley and Frederik Wandahl have been selected to the lineup.
Gianni Moscon will be a road captain alongside Gianni Vermeersch who didn't get selected for the Tour but is an immense specialist when it comes to positioning. Finn Fisher-Black should have a free role to chase stage wins on the punchy days whilst Jordi Meeus has also been selected to take part in the race, aiming for the bunch sprints - although he lacks the leadout men that usually follow him throughout the season.
