The plot thickens surrounding the doping allegations aimed at the INEOS Grenadiers Head Carer David Rozman, as new reports reveal that the Slovenian soigneur also worked with Sir Dave Brailsford at Manchester United in 2024.
INEOS owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe took over the day-to-day running of the 20-time English league champions in early 2024, and immediately drafted in Brailsford from the cycling team in an attempt to try and rectify Manchester United's struggles behind the scenes in recent years. In new reports by The Times and The Guardian however, it has now been revealed that Rozman too made the jump to football, a decision that comes under scrutiny given the recent allegations against the Slovenian.
According to a report by the Irish Independent, Rozman, has links to the disgraced Dr. Mark Schmidt, a physician at the centre of the Aderlass doping scandal, with information garnered revealing Rozman shared a number of messages with Schmidt in 2012, including one that asked the doctor if he had "the stuff used at Milram", a team embroiled in its own doping case in 2007.
After initially remaining tight lipped on the allegations, INEOS did eventually release a statement saying they were aware of the report and that "the team has made a formal request to the International Testing Agency (ITA) to request any information it considers relevant. The team reiterates its policy of zero tolerance to any breach of the applicable WADA codes, historic or current."
Midway through the 2025 Tour de France however, Rozman was removed from the INEOS operation on the ground. "Following recent media allegations, David has now received a request from the ITA to attend an interview," the team said in a statement released on the matter. "Accordingly, he has stepped back from race duties and has left the Tour [de France]."
According to these new reports, Rozman's role at Manchester United was over the course of four weeks working with the team's soft tissue therapists, as part of a programme that saw INEOS staff working in a different sport for a short period of time. Likely meaning Rozman was likely at the English football giants on a placement basis, rather than having any formal or employment relationship with the club.
It is also worth noting that this would have taken place before any allegations against the soigneur had come to light. As of yet, INEOS are yet to comment on the newest revelations regarding Rozman.
