Lidl-Trek leader Mads Pedersen has put in a monstrous performance on stage 4 of the 2025 Tour of Denmark, taking a stunning solo win to extend his overall race lead, having been on the attack for around 70km.
A breakaway of seven split themselves from the peloton early on, with four Danish riders being joined by Belgian Robbe Ghys (Alpecin-Deceuninck), Dutchman Enzo Leijnse (Team Picnic PostNL) and Frenchman Baptiste Veistroffer (Lotto). Although the peloton initially allowed the time gap to grow, with around 80km to go, attacks from the peloton by the likes of Mattias Skjelmose, Mads Pedersen, and Axel Zingle reignited the racing behind and slashed the lead group's advantage.
As the race continued to explode, with around 50km to go, a Pedersen-led counter-trio joined the breakaway at the front of the race, around 55 seconds clear of the peloton. With 30km to go, Pedersen went solo, launching yet another big attack. By the time the Dane reached 20km to go, his lead was 44 seconds. The gap between Pedersen and the chase was steadily decreasing, but the former world champion still had a decent gap at 15km from the line.
The Danish national team were doing the majority of the work in the chase behind, and by the time Pedersen reached the last 10km of the day, they had closed to within 35 seconds. Despite some counters from the chase group, Pedersen was still a solo leader through the 5km to go banner and from there, victory was secured for the Dane as he bagged Lidl-Trek their 3rd win in four days at the 2025 Tour of Denmark in the most exquisite style.
