Throughout the 2025 Tour Down Under, there will be many riders to withdraw from the race, for several different reasons. We make a list of all riders who leave the race, as well as list out a few of the main crashes that take place during the race.
To start off, two riders were already unable to start the race due to injuries suffered at a mass crash in the Down Under Classic, they were Movistar's Manlio Moro and Arkéa's Miles Scotson. However, the very fast and dangerous sprint finish led to another crash.
Dylan van Baarle was involved and fractured a collarbone. Among those confirmed to have gone down are Nikias Arndt and Phil Bauhaus or Bahrain - Victorious, Markel Beloki of EF Education-EasyPost, Tom Paquot of Intermarché - Wanty, Henok Mulubrhan of XDS Astana Team and Australia champion Luke Durbridge.
The stage started off with one less rider in the peloton as Dylan van Baarle could not start following yesterday's injuries. Right at the start of the stage there was a fall involving seven riders including race leader Sam Welsford who had ripped shorts and jersey as a result, but still went on to win the stage. Jhonatan Narváez, James Knox, Pascal Eenkhoorn, Andrea Bagioli, Kelland O'Brien and Lukas Nerurkar were also involved.
The stage featured one particularly bad looking fall for Astana's Harold Martin Lopez who looked to have gone head down in a crash, but Astana have shared that he was conscious and has not suffered fractures as a result. The Colombian had to abandon the race however. The stage also saw another crash affecting defending champion Stephen Williams and Visma's Loe van Belle.
It was a day finally without any mass crash or scary fall, but still it wasn't a day without incidents. Australia has not been the safest for the peloton and today it was Jay Vine who hit the deck and was lett with a very bloodied knee for several hours. Alexis Renard and Donovan Grondin are also known to have come down in the same crash.
There was one rider who could not finish the stage today, Visma's Loe van Belle who was involved in an early crash and was taken out of the race as a precaution. Chris Harper, Luke Durbridge and Sam Welsford were involved in the same fall as the Dutchman; whilst Decathlon's Jordan Labrosse also hit the deck later in the day.
Unbelievably, the race has seen yet another mass crash on it's final day. An event often known for it's short and relaxed stages, has this year become an enormous hotspot for crashes. Including the Down Under Classic, this was the third mass crash into a bunch sprint over the space of just over a week. No riders were forced to abandon, as it happened with 1.3 kilometers to go, but the following riders (having feel or been blocked by the crash) can be named:
Nick Schultz, Rune Herregodts, Lukas Nerurkar, James Knox, Jardi van der Lee, Yuhi Todome, Stephen Williams, Simon Dehairs, Kelland O'Brien, Alexis Renard, Luke Durbridge, Rémy Rochas, Eddy le Huitouze, Lucas Hamilton, Samuel Watson and Lewis Askey. It's not certain that all these riders actually hit the ground, but in some way they were involved in the incident.
