Juan Pedro López did not start the last stage of the Tour Down Under 2025 won by Sam Welsford and has seen how it has crowned Jhonatan Narvaez winner of the race. He was disqualified from the race, however this happened the day after he - on front of the TV camera - held on to a neutral service bike for an extended period of time.

Initially, it was surprising to see the Spaniard's name missing from the list of fines after stage 5, the day where he joined the day's breakaway in order to try and put pressure on the peloton. In order to reach it, alone on a flat road, he took several bidons from the neutral service, in a clear attempt to grab on and take as much time as possible.

The organization reviewed the images in which it is clearly seen how the Lidl-Trek rider takes advantage of the bike to, for a few seconds, move faster and thus reach the breakaway sooner, and decided that he did not deserve to start on the last day. He was 39th in the overall classification.

'El Patron' has apologized in networks for what happened: "I want to apologize to everyone for my action yesterday. I made a stupid decision in the course of the race and I am very sorry for it. I take responsibility for my mistake and I will learn from it."
