Lenny Martinez : "Je suis content d'être ici à ce niveau. C'est certes impressionnant, mais une fois sur le vélo, je ne pense plus à ça."
Lenny Martinez is one of the most fashionable climbers in the international peloton and today at the Criterium du Dauphiné he will have his first big chance to shine with the mythical climbs of the Madeleine and the Croix de Fer. The Groupama-FDJ rider is clear, however, that he is competing in a race superior to those he usually races:
"It's a race with a higher level than the races in which I usually compete, there are more demands with the Tour de France so close and now we'll have to see how these mountain days go," the 19-year old said ahead of the stage. The Frenchman, David Gaudu's top lieutenant, believes that the ascent of the Madeleine can make the race explode and that his role will be to be at his leader's side for as long as possible.
"What's planned is for me to be alongside David for as long as possible to learn as much as I can from him, from there we'll see what happens during the stage. I think there's going to be a great pace on the Madeleine, I think that's going to do a lot of damage and he's going to go on the attack," he concluded.
Finally, he was asked if the fact that David Gaudu is behind in the general classification would make them attack, but with a smile he did not want to give any clues to his rivals: "For the moment there is nothing planned".
