Kasper Asgreen requires stitches following injuries suffered at Trouée d'Arenberg crash

Soudal - Quick-Step endured a tough spring and Paris-Roubaix was not any better. At the Tour of Flanders the signs were positive for the Belgian team, but their best chances were thrown out the window by a crash that took out Kasper Asgreen.

"Following the crashes in which they were involved, several Soudal Quick-Step riders had to abandon Paris-Roubaix," a press release from the Belgian team said. "Bert Van Lerberghe has a muscle injury which will require a few days of recovery, Davide Ballerini will take a couple of days off for his knee injury to heal, while Kasper Asgreen needed some stiches on his chin and will undergo X-rays investigations on his wrist."

Crashes were aplenty and Quick-Step's best finisher was Tim Merlier, who rode to 23rd spot on the line. Kasper Asgreen was expected to be the team's best card but he was one of the involved in the mass crash at the peloton at the Trouée d'Arenberg.

The Dane's race ended there, as did Davide Ballerini's. Asgreen may be able to return to competition soon with Amstel Gold Race as a possible goal, but he left Roubaix with stitches in the chin and is still unsure of the condition in one of his wrists.
