Head of Racing
Grischa Niermann made no secret of the team’s ambitions: “The overall win is our big goal, there’s no need to be coy about that. Jonas is our leader and our biggest chance for the overall victory. But with Sepp, we have a former winner at the start, and Matteo has recovered well after the Tour. Together with Wilco, Ben, Victor, Dylan, and Axel, we have a team that can support Jonas in every situation.”
The Vuelta route once again looks tailor-made for drama, with a challenging blend of ten hilly stages, five summit finishes, and the decisive Alto de l’Angliru and Bola del Mundo climbs in the final week. Two time trials — including a stage 18 individual test against the clock — further underline the importance of balance across the team.
For Vingegaard, Spain’s Grand Tour carries a special significance. “I rode my first Grand Tour here in 2020, which we won with Primoz Roglic,” he reflected. “In 2023, we stood together on the final podium in Madrid. Hopefully, we can add some more great memories this year. I’m here for the overall win, and with this team supporting me, that seems like a realistic goal. I’m ready and would prefer to start racing right away.”
With Vingegaard in peak form, Kuss offering proven GC resilience, and a squad rich in both climbing and classics expertise, Visma | Lease a Bike will start among the outright favourites. The team now faces the challenge of turning ambition into another Grand Tour triumph.
