Jonas Vingegaard sends message to Tour de France rivals taking emphatic second Criterium du Dauphiné stage win with consummate ease

Jonas Vingegaard has laid down a Tour de France marker by taking a second stage win at the Criterium du Dauphiné in style, riding clear with supreme ease atop the Col de Croix de Fer.

The Criterium du Dauphiné reaches the high mountains. Stage 7 of the French race sees Jonas Vingegaard having to protect his yellow jersey over the Cols de Madeleine, Molard and Croix de Fer on the Queen Stage.

The breakaway was almost all caught by a raging peloton by the time race reached the Col du Mollard. Only Lotto Dstny's Victor Campenaerts was ahead of the leaders with 25km to go.

Whilst Campenaerts had around 1:26 advantage over the bunch, the GC leaders were still riding rather conservatively, perhaps knowing there was little to no chance of overturning Jonas Vingegaard's lead.

Going over the top of the penultimate climb, Campenaerts managed to hold on to a slim lead of around 15 seconds and gained some vital King of the Mountains points.

Soon as the descent had finished however and the final climb had begun the Belgian was swallowed up by the bunch.

An infernal pace setting from Attila Valter ripped up the peloton and once had pulled over Vingegaard made his move, riding clear immediately and making it look easy.

The Jumbo-Visma leader was simply a cut above all of his rivals, the rest of the GC riders being left to battle it out for the scraps left behind.

Behind Vingegaard, Adam Yates was looking the best of the rest, caught somewhere in between the race leader and a group of GC favourites.
