The
Tour de France has held an event in Nice this morning, revealing the two final stages of the 2024 edition which will take place in the region. The mountainous and almost unique finale to the race has excited current champion
Jonas Vingegaard.
"I think it will be a very very exciting finish to the 2024 Tour de France. A lot of things can happen in the last two stages so I'm already looking forward to it even through there are still two and a half years [remaining]," Vingegaard told reporters on sight. After finishing Paris-Nice in third position yesterday, the Dane stayed in Nice for the event.
With Paris hosting the Olympic Games that summer, the city of Nice will have the chance to host the finale of the Tour. It's a big opportunity, which should provide a lot of spectacle as stage 20 features some of the region's most prestigious climbs and ends with a summit finish on the Col de la Couillole which the Paris-Nice peloton rode up this week.
Finally, the race will end with a 35-kilometer long time-trial from Monaco to Nice, that goes through the Col d'Èze. It's a big challenge which includes both climbing and descending and unlike the Champs-Elysées finale, it will keep the GC riders on their toes until the last minute.
