Neither men's WorldTour
team Jayco AlUla nor the Australian team's women's team
Liv AlUla Jayco were present at the initial list of applicants for WorldTour licences for the 2026 season published by UCI some week ago. The reported reason were supposedly missing bank guarantees at the time of first deadline. Now we're a week smarter and apparently in the meantime, these issues have been resolved.
WielerFlits reports that riders and staff of both teams have been called up to a virtual meeting on Thursday where team manager Brent Copeland confirmed that the team will continue to operate normally in proximate future. At least for the next year.
Because the two teams were absent from UCI's list, its riders are now free to break their current contracts and sign elsewhere without breaking sweat. This still remains a possibility until the teams eventually submit application and have it approved by UCI. However, considering the chaotic state of transfer market and with the team expected to normally compete for another year, there won't be too many riders looking for a way out.
That there should be no more drama is indicated by Copeland reportedly appreciating the riders and staff's commitment to staying in a complicated period. According to WielerFlits, he also apologized to everyone involved for the confusion.
Confidential discussions with partners are the reason for this, according to insiders. It took longer to iron out these wrinkles. Sponsors AlUla and Giant have reportedly made significant efforts to secure their future. Ultimately, the final decision rested with team owner Gerry Ryan, who has given his approval to continue at least next year. Jayco is the company of the immensely wealthy Ryan, who has invested money in his team for years.
This means Jayco AlUla and Liv AlUla Jayco are saved for the time being. Both teams will remain in the peloton in 2026. While the first license application deadline of October 15th was missed, the second deadline is next Monday, November 3rd. Sources close to the team say all the necessary paperwork has been completed and is in the UCI's possession.
This should help the men's team to complete its 2026 lineup as at the moment, only 20 names have been confirmed for the next period. Meanwhile a big-hitter of the caliber of Michael Matthews or younger promising riders such as Felix Engelhardt, Anders Foldager and Davide De Pretto still have uncertainty over their future.
