After being forced to settle for second on stage 2 of the 2024 Baloise Belgium Tour yesterday, Jasper Philipsen powered to the win on stage 3 with a dominant sprint performance.
Seven riders forced their way into the breakaway of the day on stage 3, they were all swallowed up by the peloton with 35 kilometres to go. Then it was all about preparation for the golden kilometre and it was Uno-X Mobility's Soren Waerenskjold who starred in the three successive sprints, gaining himself some bonus seconds in the general classification as a result.
Although the majority of sprinters were still in the mix heading towards the finale, Fabio Jakobsen wasn't. The Team DSM-Firmenich PostNL man going down hard in a crash, looking visibly frustrated afterwards as he sat glumly at the side of the road waiting for assistance.
Despite a few solo riders attempting to try their luck with a late attack, it was once again a bunch sprint that decided the day. Through the Flamme Rouge, Alpecin-Deceuninck were on the front of the bunch, with around 200m to go, Jasper Philipsen opened his sprint and once he launched there was no stopping the Belgian from taking the win ahead of Olav Kooij.
