Jack Haig leads strong Bahrain Victorious Giro d'Italia lineup with his GC quest supported by the likes of Buitrago, Caruso and Mader

With the 2023 Giro d'Italia now just days away, more and more teams are unveiling their official lineups, the latest of which is Bahrain - Victorious who will be fully backing Jack Haig in his quest for the Maglia Rosa.

“Jack is our GC leader, and we also have Damiano, Gino & Santiago," the team Sports Director, Gorazd Štangelj revealed to the official website of Bahrain - Victorious. "Of course we will look at the situation day by day. There is some very strong competition at the race this year, particularly with so much time trialling, so our goal of the podium would be a really big achievement. Damiano showed great condition at Romandie, Jack in the Alps, Santi at Liege as well as the Alps, and Gino’s form is improving too.”

With the Australian, Haig coming into the race in good form after an impressive third-placed finish overall at the Tour of the Alps supported by the likes of Damiano Caruso who himself finished third overall at the Tour de Romandie, Santiago Buitrago who became Colombia's first ever podium finisher at Liege-Bastogne-Liege and Gino Mäder, 5th at Paris-Nice there is plenty of good legs and good quality in the lineup.

Also involved for Bahrain at the Giro will be Olympic Gold Medalist on the track, Jonathan Milan, Jasha Sütterlin, Andrea Pasqualon and Edoardo Zambanini.

“Every day we will give the riders tasks and opportunities, as well as protecting the leaders. We will look at every stage to see where we might find our moment of glory," says Štangelj. "I’m happy to have Jonathan here, even though we won’t be able to give him much support on the stages that suit him. But he should be able to find some space once the GC boys are safe. We have Edoardo as climbing support, Jasha Andrea & Jonathan as flat support, but of course everyday we will have an objective in mind.”
