Movistar Team is another in the line of teams who had from from perfect 2024 season. Enric Mas saved the season with a Vuelta podium, but it's been mostly anonymous year and the struggle is further amplified by departure of one of Movistar's brighest prospects, Oier Lazkano, to Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe.
With no worries about relegation, the spotlight will be on other Movistar riders in 2025. One of the most interesting is Iván Romeo, who rose to stardom in 2024 after winning the U23 World Championships Time Trial.
The 21-year-old Spanish cyclist was one of those who this off-season renewed with Movistar Team until 2028. For that reason, it is assumed that he will be a fundamental pillar of the team for the future. In conversation with Marca, in fact, Romeo affirms that he is going for it.
"We have prepared the season ambitiously," says Ivan Romeo, before listing his goals. "I think it's going to be a very good year. I'll start in Valencia. Then I'll do my first grand tour. I also want to be at the World Championship and do well at the Spanish Championship."
Regarding the grand tour in which he will race, there is still none confirmed. Still, Romeo has the Vuelta a Espana in mind: "The boss will say it when it's time, but I've seen that there's a time trial in Valladolid during La Vuelta, so I'd like to be there, in my home race."
Speaking generally in conclusion, Ivan Romeo believes that there are two main objectives for Movistar Team for 2025:
The key to a good year is that Movistar Team "fulfills its ambitious goals and that Enric can make that definitive leap that he lacks in La Vuelta after so many podiums. And in the Tour the same, either in the overall or looking for victories. We don't want to focus so much on points, but we want a good attitude and then the results will come."
