One of the surprises of Volta a Comunitat Valenciana stage 2 was Thomas Gloag. The British young talent that races for Jumbo-Visma made a very good climb in the arrival to Benissa. The 21 years old was the first one to catch the attack of Brandon McNulty on the last 2 km of the climb and was very active during the final climb.
"All the compliments go to my teammates. I didn't have to do so much. It was a perfect day like this. However, I still have a lot to learn, but have the huge luxury of being able to learn from the experienced guys in the team. I made a good effort, but it wasn't enough. It's how cycling works", said Gloag in the post race interview.
The 21 years old Gloag is doing his debut as a pro in cycling and what he might lack in experience compensates with excitement to race. He finished 8th on the stage and sits 6th overall only 10 seconds behind the leader Giulio Ciccone of Trek-Segafredo. He is 2nd in the youth classification, with the same time of the leader Anton Charmig of the Uno-X Team, and he aims for more.
"Yes it was good, but with this team you race to win. I have the best support of anyone in the race. In fact, the team is not only strong but also very experienced. I'm still completely full of adrenaline, that I'm racing here and with the crowd. It's so much fun to be here", he concluded.
