After more than a decade in professional cycling, Lisa Brennauer has finally called it quits. She had already announced her retirement plans a few weeks ago via social media.
As her last professional race, she chose the European Championships. "I'm happy that I was able to choose the end of my career here in Munich, so close to home," Brennauer told Cyclingnews.
She was satisfied with her performance despite finishing fourth. “For me, it was definitely the perfect ending. Anyway, I'm happy that I was able to choose the end of my career myself, that it wasn't imposed on me by anyone," Brennauer told deutschlandfunk.
Brennauer's professional cycling career has spanned over 14 years. She has accumulated a total of 58 victories including the Tokyo olympic medal and World Championships. "There wasn't one special day where I suddenly thought, I want to stop cycling, rather, I think it's a process I've been going through over the last years and thinking about my future and other plans I have in life," Brennauer said. "Now, I am at a point where I feel like the time is right for me," concluded Brennauer.
