Isaac del Toro won what is so far the most impressive victory of his short career at Milano - Torino. The Mexican was the strongest in the hard climb up to Superga and took the victory, however he did so without zipping his jersey and that ultimately cost him a fine after the race.
Del Toro sprinted through the finish line with the UAE Team Emirates jersey completely open, which is forbidden by the UCI, for which he has been fined 200 Swiss francs. What is surprising is not the sanction, which was known to be forthcoming. The race report pointed towards "damage to the image of the sport". It is known that teams tell their riders to zip their jerseys for the finish line pictures so as to showcase their sponsors, however it came as a surprise that the Mexican would actually be punished by the race organization itself.

Another laughable attempt of the UCI trying to flex their muscles. "Damaging the image of the sport" wtf?! How about improving riders safety or doing more about the doping issues and changing testing protocols. That's 'damaging the sport" more than anything ever could

I'm so glad this is what the UCI does, instead of ensuring the safety of the riders.

Abolish the UCI!

It's completely laughable just like the UCI.

Pedalmasher 23 March 2025 at 21:51+ 72

He had a broken zip. UCI are truly idiots.

Oh yeah, the photos kind of show that broken zip. It's completely detached from one side.

I'm surprised that this article didn't mention the fact that the zipper was broken, and he couldn't zip it up if he tried. That fact makes the UCI decision even more idiotic.

I thought it did mention that. Maybe I read that in a different article tho.

It's another laughable attempt of the UCI trying to flex their muscles. They've always been a joke and it just gets more ridiculous. If they are going to hand out fines (whether right or wrong) that money should go into a pot and go towards riders safety but we know that will never happen

abstractengineer 23 March 2025 at 21:51+ 3156

Idiots. Just give him a warning and move on. there was no time to zip up the jersey

He couldn't have zipped it up if he tried. His zipper was broken. If you look closely in some of the pics you can see it's broken. I think the pic in this article you can see it actually

Decent abs. Reminds me of me.

Oh my goodness. This is scandalous. Isaac del Toro, you're damaging the image of the sport. Yellow card, please! That'll teach him that manners maketh man.

Seriously, I'm surprised that there is such a rule and again it is not consistently enforced. I never heard such ruling handed to Tadej in 2022 TdF when he crossed the line without zipping his jersey having been utterly defeated.

Good point and what a good memory!

The real issue here is that his zipper was BROKEN. He couldn't have zipped it up even if he tried.
