Joshua Tarling's 2025
Giro d'Italia will go down in history as a mixed one for the Welshman. After winning his first ever Grand Tour stage in the individual time trial on stage 2, the 21-year-old missed out against the clock on stage 10, and on stage 16 was suddenly forced to abandon after a nasty crash.
Having got himself into the breakaway, Tarling slid out on a wet descent, hitting the barriers at the side of the road hard, ultimately forcing him to prematurely end his Giro d'Italia debut. Now, the
INEOS Grenadiers have released a medical update on the former European time trial champion's condition and sadly, it seems like Tarling has not managed to escape without injury from the incident.
"Following his crash on Stage 16 of the Giro d'Italia, Josh Tarling was immediately attended to by race medical staff and our team doctor. He was transported to a local hospital for a full assessment, where scans confirmed bone and soft tissue injuries to his lower back," begins an INEOS Grenadiers announcement through their official social media channels. "Josh remained in hospital overnight for observation and will be discharged today. He will continue to be closely monitored by our medical team, with a structured rehabilitation plan in place to support his full recovery."
