The Tour de France has had three thrilling days of action and it shows no signs of calming down. The peloton will ride up the Col du Galibier today in what is the first true long climbing test and Team Visma | Lease a Bike look fully ready to tackle it; with Matteo Jorgenson also entering the stage confident that he is even stronger than earlier in the season.
"The further today's stage progressed, the better I started to feel myself," Jorgenson said in a press release issued by the Dutch team. "The legs are fine anyway. I even feel that I have improved a little bit compared to the Critérium du Dauphiné. Tomorrow we will go into the high mountains for the first time. I am looking forward to it and it is fair to say that we are all looking forward to it."
The American rider has won Paris-Nice earlier in the season and confirmed his progression since joining Visma, and has proven to be a very consistent rider in the one-week stage-races, Stage 4 hence comes in a perfect time where he should still be as fresh as his rivals. He finished second to Primoz Roglic only at the Criterium du Dauphiné, almost winning the race with a great climbing performance on the final day, but he believes that he has since grown into even better form.
On the first two days of the race Jorgenson spent time in the head of the peloton working for Wout van Aert and Jonas Vingegaard respectively. He isn't expected to go for his own chances on this stage as Jonas Vingegaard has also shown great form, but he should be a very important piece in Team Visma | Lease a Bike's strategy. "The important thing is to get Jonas through that stage without any problems. He has impressed me over the past few days. Jonas is riding with a lot of confidence. Tomorrow is going to be another test."
