Juan Ayuso, young star of UAE Team Emirates, was happy to have arrived safe and sound at the finish line in Barcelona in the second stage of the Vuelta a España. His day was far from easy, not least because he suffered several punctures.
"It has been a bit chaotic, I have punctured 3 times, I have been chasing for a long time, one for nails on the road, thank you very much to that person, I don't know what for, to kill us?" Ayuso said in a post-race interview. He wasn't the only rider affected, however the situation was quite annoying to the Spaniard. Ultimately he made it home safe without losing time on the rainy day, and without a crash unlike Primoz Roglic and Geraint Thomas.
Regarding the measure of taking the times at 9 kilometers from the finish line, Ayuso makes it clear that it was the cyclists who forced it and that not doing so would have been very dangerous, being very critical of the organization of the Vuelta a España.
"It didn't go slowly, there was a lot of tension because of the water, it went cautiously. I was happy to arrive safe and sound. Unlike yesterday, which was a disaster for the organization, today it was difficult but they made the right decision because the road is slippery, it's a skating ring, if we had had to risk our necks at the first change it would not have made sense.
Finally, he referred to Monday's stage in Andorra, which he expects to be quite hard: "It will be very hard, it will rain, storm, the port has 2-3 km quite hard, we will have to see the feelings and spend the day and think about the days to come".
