The 2025
Tour de Suisse is around the corner and from a glance at its parcours, it is evident that multiple riders can aim for a result in the general classification. Compared to previous mountainous editions, this year's Suisse will be an opportunity for various rider types with only the final uphill time trial as a true mountain test.
"The Tour de Suisse is set to be a tough one this year and we are preparing for it with clear priorities," said Picnic PostNL sports director Rudi Kemna. "Our main goal is to aim for the general classification with
Oscar Onley and we have built the team around this objective. He is ready, as is the group that supports him."
Eighth last year in a stronger field and with less-fitting parcours, the 22-year-old Onley will aim high in his second start at the Swiss stage race. And next to general classification, winning a stage also seems like a realistic scenario.
Considering the parcours, versatile sprinters should be looking at a plenty of opportunities to score a result. For that purpose the Dutch team selected fast men Sean Flynn and Pavel Bittner for the race. In addition Frank van den Broek could be plotting a victory from afar.
"At the same time, we will look for opportunities in the individual stages: Sean Flynn and Frank van den Broek will aim for stage wins in the rolling stages, while Pavel Bittner will try to be among the protagonists when it comes to the sprint. It is a well-balanced team and we approach the race with confidence and ambition on all fronts."
Suisse will be one of many important races for Picnic PostNL in their quests to defend their WorldTour status. As the XDS Astana Team (currently 17th) seems to be cruising towards a comfortable resurrection, the battle for 18th place shrinks just to the Dutch team (18th) against French Cofidis (19th) with a little over 1.000 point-lead, Intermarché - Wanty cannot consider themselves to be too safe either. In the event that Oscar Onley succeeds in his GC hunt at Suisse, this advantage could perish in an instant...
