After a major blow on stage 9 of the 2025
Giro d'Italia, some were already writing off
Primoz Roglic in the fight for the Maglia Rosa. The wily Slovenian proved in the stage 10 time trial however, that his race is far from run as he gained back time on all his main rivals, rising back up to 5th in the general classification as a result.
Analysing the action from the stage 10 time trial for
TNT Sports on The Breakaway, Australian sprint icon
Robbie McEwen, himself a 12-time stage winner at the Italian Grand Tour, was incredibly impressed by the powers of recovery displayed by the
Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe leader.
"He has taken time back on all the main rivals," noted McEwen. "He took a massive chunk back on Del Toro. We talk a lot about this with Roglic so much, how resilient he is, his bounce-back-ability."
Whilst McEwen was impressed by Roglic's fightback on stage 10, the Aussie's TNT colleague and former British national champion
Adam Blythe, was more in disbelief at the Slovenian's efforts.
"I genuinely think he's got a twin. I think he's got a twin," Blythe laughed. "If you think about this, when he did that recon today, he had the bandage on his left knee to cover up a cut. Can you see a cut on his left knee, because I can't see anything? Number two, in his interviews he's been completely free and completely open, just a different Roglic to what we're used to."
As the Giro d'Italia heads back into the mountains on stage 11, Roglic is, as mentioned, back up to 5th in the general classification. 1:18 down on the Maglia Rosa wearing
Isaac del Toro, Roglic is perhaps more importantly back to within a minute of Juan Ayuso at 53 seconds down on the Spaniard.
