Primoz Roglic can be counted among the winners of today's chaotic Giro d'Italia time trial. As wind toyed with early starters and later heavy rain poured onto the GC favourites, Roglic came out on top with a 17th time on the day but most importantly he moves back up to 4th overall.
"I did well on the time trial and I'm really happy with this performance. Luckily for me, I had the tour in pure rain and it was more demanding than now. Now there were a few drops in some places, wet sections. I was happy with every meter that was dry. That's cycling," he told Val 202 after the stage.
The past days Roglic spent a bit more time on the ground than he would've liked. First he got a taste of sterrato roads on Sunday. Then another hit came during today's time trial recon when he slipped in one of the wet corners. How does the Slovenian hold up with those incidents in mind?
"I'm more balanced now. On Sunday I fell on the left, and today I rolled a little on my butt on the right side. We'll see. As they say, pain that doesn't reach the heart is not worth mentioning. The most painful thing is actually that unfortunate shoulder from the fall, but we'll see about the other one."
Roglic also looks up to stage 11 that passes the intimidating San Pellegrino climb with up and down second half of the stage. "Tomorrow we have a rather demanding stage, we'll see how it goes. We'll try to regenerate through these stages for more mountainous battles."
He added that he is well prepared for the days ahead. "I have no choice but to be here. Let's move on. There are many things to come, but it's up to me to do my best, it's as simple as that. Be brave and courageous in the days ahead."
