The upcoming Giro d'Italia (May 6 to 28) will not have a COVID protocol for riders, so it will be the teams who decide how to proceed in case a positive test is returned by one of their riders.
Nearly a year after life slowly returned to the normality we knew before the pandemic, COVID-19 continues to cause uncertainty. Following multiple positive tests in last weeks, especially the one of Giulio Ciccone who was confirmed today to be absent, many fear that COVID will play a role in the long-awaited battle between Remco Evenepoel and Primož Roglič.
Last year, the Corsa Rosa suffered a very important loss, such as that of João Almeida who said goodbye to the race after testing positive for coronavirus when he was fourth overall inside the final week, with good chances to fight for the podium until the end.
