Giro d'Italia reveals starting stages for 2023 edition

The Giro d'Italia is constantly working on it's future editions and what route they will be taking. Heavy rumours exist over much of the 2023 edition, but the organizers have revealed the Grande Partenza which will be taking place in Abruzzo, and revealed the profile of three stages.

The race will start in Fossacesia Marina with an 18.4-kilometer time-trial up to Ortona Costa dei Trabocchi, a route that will feature a small hilltop finish and set some early differences in the overall classification - with many already suggesting Remco Evenepoel's presence and early lead in the race if his presence is to be confirmed.

The region of Abruzzo will be the venue for the opening two days, with the second stage one for the sprinters, taking place between Teramo and San Salvo. The organizers have also revealed the profile of the seventh day, as the race is expected to head south and then back north. Stage 7 will feature a summit finish at Gran Sasso d'Italia, a high-mountain stage where the finish at 2130 meters of altitude was last used in 2018 where Simon Yates took the victory.

The full route will be announced soon on the 17th of October, with the dates also soon to be confirmed.
