We're gutted to see @taogeoghegan forced to abandon the #Giro following a crash on stage 11. The Brit will head to hospital for checks and we will have further updates in due course.
Traditionally a rider that is a crash magnet, Geraint Thomas would have had his heart in his mouth when he hit the deck on stage 11 of the Giro d'Italia. Although he was fine, his teammate Tao Geoghegan Hart was not so lucky.
"We were fighting to be well positioned. A rider from UAE fell next to me. Fortunately for me, I just fell on him," recaps the Maglia Rosa. "However, the guys behind me also fell. Sivakov is okay, but he has also been hit a bit. Roglic also fell to the ground. It was a bad moment."
As mentioned, Geoghegan Hart was not so lucky. Starting the day in third on the general classification, the Brit was stretchered out of the Giro d'Italia and driven away in an ambulance. A big blow for the INEOS Grenadiers who had looked imperious so far.
“Geoghegan Hart's abandon is a great loss, he was doing really well," says Thomas. "He was always able to recover immediately after the stages while I had to do interviews. So he was in a good position and was in good shape.”
