Remco Evenepoel is no longer the leader of the Giro d'Italia. The Belgian has given up the Maglia Rosa after stage 4 following first winning it in the opening time trial, just as he had previously mentioned was part of his plan.
In the fourth stage, as expected, a breakaway was successful and the victory went to the Frenchman Aurélien Paret-Peintre, who has now risen in the GC to third overall. The new leader, second on the day, is the young Norwegian from Team DSM Andreas Leknessund, who leads Evenepoel by almost half a minute.
Joao Almeida and Primoz Roglic lose a couple of places and are fourth and fifth, respectively after the rapid rise of both Leknessund and Paret-Peintr. Rounding out the top 10 are Geraint Thomas, Aleksander Vlasov, Toms Skujins (another man from today's break), Tao Geoghegan Hart and Jay Vine. There have been no new time differences between the favourites.
