Future of Amstel Gold Race secured after crunch talks in Dutch municipality of Vaals

A couple of weeks ago, concerning news broke that cast the future of the Amstel Gold Race in doubt. Thankfully now, all issues seem to have been resolved and the race will continue.

With the Dutch municipality of Vaals looking to crack down on big pro-am cycling events, the future of the prestigious was called into question because of the fact race organisers refused to hold the race without the traditional, Saturday amateur race taking place also.

Thankfully, in a packed council meeting on Monday, crunch talks have come to the welcome decision that keeping the amateur race and the Amstel Gold Race proper is best for all parties.

Three major bike race with between 5,000 and 15,000 participants per event will as such, now remain permitted each year thanks to the majority of the council voting against plans to limit that number to just the one in coming years.
