After stage 2 of the 2024
Tour du Rwanda on Monday, both the
Astana Qazaqstan Team and the
Team Polti Kometa were forced to take on a two hour quest for a place to sleep the night.
According to Het Nieuwsblad, the Four Steps Hotel in Butare, Rwanda was supposed to be the home of the two European teams for the night. But after seeing the place in person, both teams were left feeling way less than pleased and as such had to take on the search for a comfortable place to rest their heads for the night before getting back to racing on Tuesday.
With the hotel given an impressive 4.5 out 5 stars on Tripadvisor, with organisers of the stage-race viewing the attitude of the teams as somewhat disrespectful according to Het Nieuwsblad and each of Soudal – Quick-Step Development, Bingoal-WB Development, Groupama-FDJ and Team TotalEnergies stayed there throughout the night without complaint.
Notably, next year of course, the World Championships are also being held in Rwanda so hopefully there will not be a repeat of any such issues then.
