Demi Vollering finally got her hands on the Red Jersey of
La Vuelta Femenina back in 2024, after podium finishes the two previous years. Now, as she returns to Spain in the colours of a new team in 2025, the Dutchwoman is intent on retaining her women's Grand Tour title.
Having swapped Team SD Worx - Protime for
FDJ - Suez over the off-season, Vollering has had a somewhat mixed opening to the 2025 season. A general classification win at the Volta Femenina la Comunitat Valenciana kicked off the campaign in style, before a podium at Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and another win at Strade Bianche continued the 28-year-old strong start to the season.
Since then though, it's five races without a win for Vollering, who most recently finished 3rd at Liege-Bastogne-Liege Femmes, and was open and honest in her post-race interview afterwards about how she'd been battling period pains throughout the day.
Between Liege and the upcoming Vuelta, Vollering has been back in the Netherlands, taking time to breathe before the chaos of the upcoming week. "Grateful for the few days I had to spend at home with my family!"
Vollering writes in a post on her official Instagram account. "Thanks to the perfect weather I did everything outside, from early morning yoga with the dogs, breakfast, till bbq and easy rides in the sunset!"
As such, the FDJ - Suez leader is now refreshed, refocused and ready to retain her La Vuelta Femenina title. "Mentally fully charged for what’s coming!" concludes the Dutch star, sending an ominous warning to all her potential rivals.
