Although Fred Wright has consistently provided his best efforts, the rider has been down on luck. The seventh stage of Vuelta a Espana came within one inch of victory for him, but his breakaway companion Jesus Herrada beat him.
Also in the fifth stage, he narrowly missed the victory and finished third, "I'm sure that victory will come," he said. He continues, "It's hard for me, I want that win so badly. I thought I had the best sprint, and I saw the line. I thought it was best to just go for it."
Wright was among the first few riders who launched an early attack at the start. "People say I shouldn't start the sprint from the front, but that's easier said than done. It's not easy to keep your cool in those situations," said Wright.
He prefers to look at the positive side of the situation and consider it a learning experience despite losing the stage. "Of course, I am disappointed now. I have to try to stay positive. I still feel good and am ready for more breakaways, I just have to learn how to handle a sprint like that, it's a learning process. But I'm sure that victory will come,” Wright concluded. His current position in the GC is 51st, 21 minutes and 21 seconds behind the overall leader Remco Evenepoel.
