The 2024 Vuelta a Espana has reached the first rest day, so it's an early chance to take stock and assess the strongest performers so far. One way to do so, is by seeing who has earned the most money over the first 9 stages.
With his two stages wins and having most of the opening week in either the Red Jersey of race leader or Green Jersey of points classification leader, somewhat unsurprisingly, Team Visma | Lease a Bike's Wout van Aert leads the way at the top of the money list from the first 9 stages having amassed 37,675 euros.
Behind the Belgian, comes his former teammate, Primoz Roglic. The Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe leader is some distance behind Van Aert however, with his 25,565 euros over ten thousand less. In the fight for the Green Jersey, Kaden Groves is Van Aert's main challenger but in the money list, the Australian is down in third.
The current Red Jersey Ben O'Connor comes in 4th ahead of stage 9 winner Adam Yates. Pavel Bittner, in his debut Grand Tour has adapted very well, winning a stage and earning 13,000 euros over the course of the first week, good enough for 6th on the money list. Brandon McNulty, who won the opening stage follows, before Mathias Vacek, Lennert Van Eetvelt and Enric Mas round out the top 10.
